What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?

The Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award is an internationally-recognised youth development program for youth aged 13 years 9 months to 25.

Girl Guides NSW & ACT is an Award Unit which means we can deliver the Award for our Youth Members. Over the years, many Girl Guides have achieved their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards by working with Guide Leaders who have helped them reach their potential.

“The Award is a leading structured (non-formal education) youth development program, empowering all young Australians between age 13 years 9 months to 25 to explore their full potential regardless of their location or circumstance. The Award is a fully inclusive program and has no social, political, or religious affiliations.

The key elements of the program are:

  • Open to all between the ages of 13 years 9 months to 25.
  • Three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold, each progressively more challenging.
  • Four Sections: Physical Recreation, Skill, Service, Adventurous Journey plus Residential Project (Gold Level only).
  • Achieving an Award recognises individual goal setting and self-improvement through persistence and achievement.”1
