YATZ header

Thanks to Taronga, Girl Guides NSW & ACT are once again offering our Guides some very extraordinary opportunities. For the 13 to 19 age bracket, we will have the opportunity to send four intrepid Guides to Taronga's Boral Youth at the Zoo (YATZ) program. Normally $350, Taronga has generously supported Girl Guides with four scholarships!

YATZ  is for young people aged 13 to 19 years old who love animals. YATZ is designed to give young people the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of how a zoo works, with a focus on the importance of animal conservation.

Please note that there is very limited interaction with, and no handling of, Taronga Zoo's animals.

Each YATZ member can expect to be rostered on 2–3 days each school holiday period.

As a new member, all YATZ are required to attend Induction before volunteering. If successful, you will be invited to attend an Induction. For the November 2017 Intake you will be invited to choose one of the dates below with a parent or adult to attend with you:
Saturday 9th December, 10am—2pm
Saturday 16th December, 10am—2pm
Tuesday 2nd January, 10am—2pm

Applications open 20 October and will be taken until 20 November, 2017.

To apply, you are required to create and upload a video by the due date of 11.59pm Monday 20 November 2017.

Criteria for your video
Videos must be between 1 to 2 minutes long. In your video you must include:
1) Who you are and some information about yourself
2) Why you would like to join the Boral Youth at the Zoo (YATZ) program
3) A description of what experience you have had with animals and what causes you to like them
4) What things you do in your personal life for conservation and the environment
5) What you know about Taronga Zoo's conservation campaigns (hint: search the website!)

We have four positions available so cannot/may not accept all applicants. Therefore, it is important that if you would really like to join the program, you put a lot of thought and effort into your video.
Girl Guides NSW & ACT staff may be asked to vote on the videos, based on the 5 criteria. The successful applicants will be accepted into the YATZ program.
