Elanora Heights Girl Guide, Amelia recently underwent a rigorous recruitment process to be selected to represent NSW in the LITTLE Committee (Leading Integrated Taskforce Tackling Litter Everywhere). She will be working alongside nine other children across Australia to help reduce the nation's litter by 10% in the next 5 years. Amelia attributes her passion for the environment to a Girl Guides Earthkeepers Camp she attended at the age of 7.

The Mighty Mighty Girl Guides won Fastest Female Team at the Dragons Abreast Festival at Darling Harbour on October 30 to raise awareness about breast cancer, raising $2,900 in the process.

The Jamboree On The Air and the Jamboree On The Internet (JOTA/JOTI) took place on the weekend of 15 - 16 October 2011. This year's theme was 'Peace, Environment and Natural Disasters'. The event allowed Girl Guides and Scouts from all corners of the globe to connect with each other by means of amateur radio and the internet. Pictured are Girl Guides from Grafton.

On Friday, 2 September, over 1,100 Girl Guides from all over NSW & ACT stayed overnight at Taronga Zoo for the Great Guide Sleepover, an annual event which raises money for conservation programs. This year, money raised will be going towards the threatened Corroboree Frog.
Many girls arrived in fancy dress, wearing costumes to fit in with our 'Frogs, Frills and Fun' theme. As well as being able to dance along to pop music with their friends and enjoy the magical Sydney Harbour backdrop, the girls were treated to zoo keeper talks about the animals and the Zoo's operation. On Saturday, they were free to explore the Zoo.

On Saturday, 13 August, a group of Girl Guide Leaders from all over NSW attended Tingira for an international training event on eco-friendly camping presented by Leaders from Wakayama, Japan. The Recycling for Guide Camps project is supported by the Commonwealth through the Australia-Japan Foundation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It was also supported by Greenpeace and Clean Up Australia.
It was an excellent opportunity to reinforce our commitment to the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals, particularly the environmental sustainability goal. It was also a great way to connect with our sister Girl Scouts from Japan and learn about their culture.
Sunday, 14 August 2011 marked this year's 'Rejectamenta' where Girl Guides collected just over 10 tonnes of jumpers and tracksuits left behind at the City2Surf to donate to the Smith Family charity. In the crowd, the Girl Guides were unmistakable in their red volunteer shirts and Guide hats.
Contestants were showered with items of clothing being thrown into the air, some decorating tree branches. It was fantastic to see the girls so focused on working as a team to contribute to a great cause.
