The steps to becoming a Leader

Once an Adult Member is registered as a Prospective Leader she will receive the New Leader Kit from the District Leader or her representative.

Each Prospective Leader is linked with a Guiding Partner, who provides support, encouragement and information.

Guiding Awareness

All Prospective Leaders are required to participate in Guiding Awareness and complete the relevant Module in the Leader’s Journal.

Guiding Awareness is usually one on one with the District Leader or her representative.

The Prospective Leader chooses which strands of Leadership interests her - Leader of Youth, Leader of Adults or Resource Leader.

Leadership Development

Once a Prospective Leader has completed Guiding Awareness she may commence the Modules of Leadership Development. Her Guiding Partner assists the Prospective Leader to work through the competencies for Leadership Development in the Journal.

At this point, the Leader applies to attend Leadership Introduction (2 day) Training.

To complete Leadership Development, the Prospective Leader will need to have First Aid qualifications and attend a Money Matters workshop within her Region.

Leadership Qualification

The Prospective Leader must attend a state-run Training course before she can qualify as a Leader. This comprises of 3 days – Leadership Introduction (2 days) and Leadership Progression (1 day).

Attendance at Leadership Introduction is recommended as soon as possible upon completion of Guiding Awareness. The Prospective Leader with her Guiding Partner completes the Leadership Development Modules and attends Leadership Progression within 2 months of Leadership Introduction.
After attending these Trainings, the Prospective Leader’s Guiding Partner will work with her through the competencies for Qualification in the selected Leadership strand.
