Guide Properties
SALE OF TARA
Tara, Girl Guides NSW & ACT campsite in Silverdale, is to be sold – a decision taken ‘with great sadness’ by the Board.
The sale answers the need of Girl Guides NSW & ACT to rationalise its property holdings. Our financial advisers have warned that we urgently need to take action in order to avoid curtailing many activities and services.
Why Tara?
Many avenues were explored before this decision was taken. Then the Roads and Traffic Authority made an unsolicited offer for the purchase of Tara. This offer was considerably higher than the current valuation for the property.
The identity of the purchaser offers a further advantage: the intended use of Tara by the RTA is as ‘compensatory habitat’ managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Our property will not lose its uniqueness.
The future
What about outdoor sites for large Guiding camping events in the future? Our Outdoor Events team has identified alternative campsites, including regional sites.
The Board offers its assurance: ‘We will provide members with options for the full camping experience at alternative venues into the future.’ Please find a list of available campsites here:- http://www.girlguides-nswact.org.au/region_properties
