The Appraisals process
Girl Guides Australia has a responsibility to ensure that Leaders carry out their roles effectively and safely. The appraisal process is conducted for all Leaders holding an appointment for which a qualification is required.
Appraisals are conducted every three years. The process involves endorsement of the qualification and the appointment.
The appraisal process should be seen as a time to:
- * Affirm and praise success
- * Identify leadership goals and ways of achieving them
- * Discuss future leadership options.
The Leader or the person to whom she is responsible initiates the process.
The appraiser and Leader should refer to the relevant job description in Guide Lines, and the appropriate appraisal form before commencing the process.
For Endorsement of Qualification, two modules must be completed. These may be:
- * Further Development modules
- * Qualification modules not previously completed or
- * Guiding or non-Guiding qualifications that have been ratified by the State Training Adviser.
To assist in implementing her action plans the Leader keeps the completed appraisal form. Copies will be kept in Region records and details sent to Guide House for entry onto the data base.
When all requirements of the appraisal process have been completed the Leader’s Appointment card is endorsed.
If the Leader or the appraiser has a concern or complaint about the appraisal process, she should notify the other and contact the Leader at the next administrative level or the State Commissioner or her nominee. An appointment can only be withdrawn by the State Commissioner.
