Further Development Modules
A qualified Leader is expected to complete two modules of Further Development (FD) every three years. This is level 4 of the AALP.
These modules may be:
· FD modules from the Leaders Journal part 2 (2006)
· Modules from the Leader's Journal part 1 (2006) in a leadership strand in which she is not qualified
· Adult Badges from Guide Lines: Faith Awareness or Asia Pacific Region - Leader's Qualification
· Equivalent courses/qualifications ratified by the State Training Adviser
A Guiding Partner is appointed to work with the Leader for each module; this may or may not be the Guiding Partner she worked with for Qualification.
Courses
The Courses held for Qualified Leaders are varied and include:
FUN Outdoors 1 day
This training offers ways to use the outdoors through games and activities. Leaders will experience activities that are adapted for the outdoors and then have resources fro futures use. It will be an active participation day with much sharing or resources.

Program Made Easy 1 day
Are you looking to complete FD P7?
Do you need a boost with Program ideas?
Leaders will create exciting themed programs for Unit meetings, review ways to facilitate girl input into the Program and explore the new handbooks and resources.

International Explored Weekend Residential
Over 2 days Leaders will will explore Guiding in other countries and activities for Unit meetings; discuss advocacy topics and how to incorporate them into the Program; participate in activities realating to the Global Action Themes - GAT, and generally develop their knowledge of the World Association of Girl Girls and Girl Scouts.

Bag of Tricks for Leader of Adults 1 day
How often are we asked to fill in at the Unit meeting for a night or two? This training is for leaders of Adults and Resource Leaders whi wish to create their 'bag' that is full of ideas pertinent to the AGP and can easily be grabbed as you rush to the Guide Hall. The day will be active and productive, where you will play, create and chatter.

The Guiding Spirit 1 day
Guiding - where have we come from?
- What is the philosophy of the Founder?
- Is it relevent today?
- Does it meet the needs of a diverse cultural society?
As these questions are researched and discussed leaders will share their thoughts and passion for the world-wide Movement to which we all belong.

Guiding Skills 1 day
This training day is aimed at increasing the skills of Leaders who have recently been qualified or who have changed roles and now work with Guides of another age group. Compass, knotting, camp gadgets, singing, fire-lighting environmental activities, environmental activities and games to develop skill in the outdoors will see you actively participating and building your own skills ready then to share with your Guides.
Catering In and Out 1 day
Leaders will:
- Create exciting menis and deal with all types of dietary requirements
- Develop skills in managing catering quantities
- Discuss cooking techniques and where pratical cook midday meal
- Learn how to maintain high standards with food handling
- Learn how to store and transport food safely
Outdoor Camp Training (FD O7 Module) Weekend Residential
Learn and practice camp craft skills such as:
· Pitching and striking tents
· Lighting fires
· Building camp gadgets
· Cooking meals
Participants are required to sleep in a tent overnight.
The weekend will also cover
· How to plan the camp program, including menu and activities, with the girls
· The roles and responsibilities of the adults
· Risk management
Completing this weekend will provide all necessary information to enable the participant to attempt the FD O7 Module with confidence. This training is essential for leaders who want to take their girls camping
· Participants are asked to bring a copy of Lets Go Camping with them to the training as this is the primary resource used.

Lightweight Camp Training - Expeditions (FD O9 Module) Weekend Residential
Participants will:
· Develop lightweight camping techniques
· Camp overnight in lightweight tents
· Learn bush survival skills
· Hike with their rucksacks - Rucksacks, when fully packed, are not to weigh more than 18kg
Cooking up a Storm
Leaders will review menu planning, determining quantities, food handling and storage for both inside and outside camps, and then cook using a variety of techniques. An active day where you eat what you cook!

Guiding Partner (FD T4 Module) 1 day Training
This fun, active, one day training is designed for Qualified Leaders who wish to share their knowledge and experience with Prospective Leaders or those working on Further Development modules.
The day focuses on the role of the Guiding Partner and provides the opportunities to practice the skills and techniques for supporting, nurturing and guiding the Leader through achieving her Modules.
Topics covered include
· Communication skills
· Adult learning styles
· Assisting adults to develop Leadership skills
· Assessment techniques
Participants will be provided with a comprehensive Guiding Partner handout to support them in their completion of the Further Development Module T4.

Low Ropes – Glengarry 1 Day Training
This active training will give you the knowledge and skills to be able to supervise your girls on the Challenge Course at Glengarry. It is a participative day with the trainers expecting the participants to actually complete the course themselves.
During this program, you will be bending, stretching, running and climbing. Maximum benefit is obtained from this program only through full participation. You will be encouraged to challenge yourself, although you will not be forced to do anything. “Challenge by choice” is our motto.
As the final part of the qualification you will be asked to facilitate a group of girls on the course and complete an evaluation and return it to Guide House in order to be credited with the Low Ropes Qualification.
Completing this qualification has been approved by the State Training Adviser as a Further Development Module equivalent.

Canoe/Kayak Weekend Non-Residential
This is a two day course and is designed to enable the participant to develop a high standard of skill and control in manoeuvring a canoe/kayak for participation in canoeing activities on open and moving water.
During the two days the participant will learn
· Risk assessment strategies
· How to select equipment
· Embark and disembark from a canoe/kayak
· Control of the canoe/kayak in moving and open water
· Capsize procedures
· How to secure craft
· Basic navigational skills
Earthkeepers Training Weekend Residential
Earthkeepers Training is only for Leaders wishing to join the Earthkeepers Team at Glengarry and assisting with sessions at these camps. Earthkeepers Camps are conducted for girls 7-10yrs at Glengarry using a set program. Camps are conducted 2-3 times a year in Terms 2 and 3 for 50 participants.
Power Boat Weekend non Residential
This is a two day course designed for the participant to gain practical and technical skills to operate a power boat. These skills involve
· Mooring
· Berthing
· Boat handling
· Navigation
· Anchoring
· Man overboard dr
Wide Games
This training takes the leader through the steps of creating a ‘Wide Game’ and suggested skills to be included. Then this day extends into the night where Leaders will participate in a night wide game – great fun but quite different to the day game.
GAT - Global Action Themes
In this training Leaders will explore the Global Action Themes and activities appropriate to the developmental stage of the Guides in their Units.
It is an active participating day with the opportunity for Leaders to share ideas and activities and to increase their resources.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR PATROL LEADERS
During this day Leaders will look at the philosophy of why we have the Patrol System, the training of the Patrol Leader with practical ideas and activities and the chance to create some resources to take home. It is a time for discussion, role plays, sharing and creating.
INTRODUCTION TO TRAINING SKILLS
This training is for those leaders interested in developing the skill of putting together a training session which may be used in a Region workshop and to assist the Trainer in Leadership Introduction training. Leaders will look at content, formats and how to plan a session. There will also be the opportunity to actually present a short session during the weekend. This training will help you achieve FD T6.
INTRODUCTION TO LEADERSHIP 2days - Residential
It is for new Leaders who have just completed their Guiding Awareness. During the weekend Leaders will participate in discussions, role plays, activities to assist them in the role of leadership they have chosen. Leaders then will have the initial skills to develop as they progress along the training path.
LEADERSHIP PROGRESSION 1 day
You have now been a Leader for a few months and are ready to absorb more information, practise new things and ask questions. The Training Team welcome you back to this day and have prepared sessions to meet your needs. After this day you return back home with resources, enthusiasm and encouragement to complete your Journal and become Qualified.
