Taronga Zoo — Animal Sponsorship

Girl Guides have been sponsoring and caring for animals at Taronga Zoo as a Guide service since 1978.

Girl Guides NSW & ACT currently sponsors four animals, one for each age group, the Feather Tail Glider (pre-junior), the Bilby (Junior guides), the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby (Guides), and the Tasmanian Devil (Senior Guides).  We also sponsor the Malle Fowl at the Western Plains Zoo.

How can Guides help save endangered species?

One way Guides can help is by supporting the Girl Guides NSW & ACT Zoo Sponsorships each year. This is an exciting service for Guides to do. Plan fun and interesting ways to raise your donations and then send your cheque to Guide House earmarking the donation for the Zoo Sponsorship.

What does our sponsorship do?

Our sponsorship money helps with food costs, veterinary care and, of course, conservation and research.

Zoo Events

Girl Guides also sleep over at Taronga Zoo once a year to help raise money for the Zoo. Talk to your Leader about the Great Guide Sleepout.

The Mallee Fowl Cheque presentation is also a big event at the Western Plains Zoo each  August.  Perhaps you and your Unit could plan a visit to Western Plains Zoo so you can be part of this special day.
