Zoo Parents

As Guides your animal is the Yelow-footed Rock Wallaby.

You and your Unit can help Girl Guides NSW & ACT with their Zoo sponsorship.

About the Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby

This medium sized macropod (or big foot) lives in dry areas. Adults suck wet sand to get moisture from it and lick dew from the rocks. They eat grass roots and leaves, feeding in the early morning and late evening.

They are amongst the brightest-coloured members of the species and have special granulations on their feet to provide friction and grip against the rocks.

The tail is used for balancing and it is carried arched over the back while hopping. They live in colonies, numbering from ten to several hundreds. The female has a pouch and suckles the joey.

Their habitat and movement has been restricted by fences, clearing and predators.
