Young Girl Guides Commemorate Anzac Day

30 APRIL 2019

Girl Guides in Young enjoyed taking part in different Anzac activities in recognition of Anzac Day and the ANZACs.

The Guides visited the local Community Radio Station as part of this year’s Anzac Communication Badge, with all girls introducing themselves during a live radio segment. Three girls and a Leader volunteered to be recorded reading different Community Announcements.

After the Radio Station visit, the Guides hiked back to the Hall in small groups called Patrols, following the different marked routes on their maps. At their Hall, they chatted on 'Tin-Can" phones, listened to older & more modern war time songs, learnt all about the wartime Mail Services, looked at collections of ANZAC First Day Covers, specific Coins & other Anzac memorabilia, and enjoyed eating Anzac Slice that one of the Guides helped to make, all completing different criteria for earning Salute to their Service commemorative Anzac Badges.

The Girls all stayed overnight at their Guide Hall before taking part in the Dawn Service, joining services at the gates of the Old & the Lawn Cemeteries before then joining community and RSL members in a Breakfast at the Services Club followed by the Main March & Service.

Following the breakfast the girls handed out orders of service to the several hundred members of the public that attended Young's main service and participated in the march. The girls loved meeting up with a local World War 2 Army Nurse & checking out her Uniform!
