Guess what? There are no wrong answers!

Materials Needed

  • Cardboard
  • Note paper
  • Textas and pencils
  • Old magazines and newspapers
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions

  1. Write down 5 different beliefs you have e.g. it is important to be kind to others.
  2. Speak to your family members and call your friends to ask them about their beliefs.
  3. Put a tick next to a belief is someone else you speak to has the same belief.
  4. Add new beliefs to your list as you hear them, include the reason the person gave too.
  5. Look at the list and choose 5 for your Belief Tree. Will you use the 5 you started with or have you found some new ones you would like to include instead?
  6. On your cardboard write a heading “My Belief Tree” at the top.
  7.  Draw a tree outline with 5 branches at the bottom of the cardboard leaving enough room for leaves.
  8. Write your five beliefs on the branches, one belief for each branch.
  9. For leaves, decorate the branches with magazine and newspaper cuttings with pictures or words that represent that belief.
  10. Share your Belief Tree with your Unit and discuss the process behind making your masterpiece!

As a Girl Guide, How Can I Lead This Activity?

Think of new ways to find out about beliefs e.g. search a company website, many companies give to charities. Is this something you believe in?

As a Unit Leader, How Can I Make This Activity Girl Led?

Prepare the girls for this activity by discussing what a belief is.
Discuss why people have different beliefs and how a belief could develop, grow and change.
Remind girls that there is no wrong answer and why.

As a Unit, how can we make sure everyone is included?

In a Unit meeting have a show of hands to see who else shares your beliefs.
