Teach a Craft Activity at Your Local Nursing Home

Age Range: All ages
Time Required: 1 - 1.5 hours
Fundamental: Service

Nursing homes are often looking for fun activities and love having community groups in to chat to and provide company to their residents.

Materials Needed

  • Materials for your craft activity e.g. paints, paper, textas
  • Instruction sheets for your activity

Instructions

  1. Call your local nursing home to arrange a time to attend and teach your activity.
  2. Decide on what activity you want to teach and the materials you will need e.g. paints, textas, instruction cards.
  3. Gather the materials needed for your activity.
  4. Attend your local nursing home and teach your activity to the residents.

Girls of all ages will need supervision when leaving the Guide Hall to attend the nursing home.

As a Girl Guide, How Can I Lead This Activity?

Delegate roles to each of the girls in your Unit e.g. some girls could read instructions out at the front of the room, while other girls could sit with the residents and show them each step of the activity.

As a Unit Leader, How Can I Make This Activity Girl Led?

Encourage girls to be part of the planning and resourcing of the activity, and ensure all girls have a part to play when teaching the activity to the residents.

As a Unit, how can we make sure everyone is included?

Make sure everyone in your Unit takes turns teaching part of the activity.
